Subject:Sandy and the Inauguration
Security:Public

ahhh, so Sandy, my good friend/roommate from the Academy, and her husband were invited to go on Obama's train tour, to the Inauguration, and to the official Inaugural ball. Color me extremely jealous!!! Her husband, Matt, does a lot of work with mental health issues and NAMI in Montana. They met Obama on the campaign trail in Montana, and I guess made a good impression!

Here's a CNN video with Obama literally sharing a train seat with Sandy. How insane???
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/politics/2009/01/17/vo.obama.inside.train.cnn

So yay for Sandy and Matt and super duper hooray for 1 more day until Obama is officially our president!

McCain must think women are really stupid and will just vote for anyone with a vagina.

She's gonna get eaten alive, and I can't wait for it!

Dave and I made our own wedding rings this weekend in Chicago. It was really hard, and really great. I LOVE our rings, and it takes all of my willpower not to wear mine around all the time. I have to wait until November, though...

Pictures of us making our wedding rings!Collapse )

There are a bunch more pictures on flickr: http://flickr.com/photos/anniedanko/sets/72157605650046336/

I'm thinking of starting a blog with all of my many craft projects. So it would be stuff like sewing, letterpress, random projects (like refinishing chairs), baking, etc.

I need a cute name for the site. Any ideas?

How about Craft-a-saurus Rex? hahahaha

Thanks!

Official date: November 8, 2008

The church wouldn't let us get married on November 1st, so we moved it back a week. c'est la vie.

The reception site is booked and we found our photographer: http://weddings.peterpawinski.com/ We're super excited about him! We found him through the Wedding Photojournalist Association. I hope that we get as many beautiful pictures as he's got on his website!

We got to meet my nephew Henry this weekend. He's awfully wonderful. I can't wait until we're ready to have a baby. I think I've got to focus on the wedding for now. And then a house. And maybe grad school? So, I'm still a few years off from the whole baby world, I guess.

When they renovated the main library in Hammond, my mom bought this great old library table and chairs from them. We just took it from my parents garage, and plan on refinishing it this weekend. It will be our first refinishing project, but I think that it's going to look great! We might host my family here for Thanksgiving (eeks, that's like 11 adults and 4 kids in our duplex), so we're going to need it done by then. And if it turns out well, we found a bunch of other great furniture in my parents garage that I want to refinish next.

I think Dave and I start too many hobbies. We've got to get our letterpress up and running....

On that note, SEND ME YOUR ADDRESSES. I am awful at keeping track of them, so even if you've sent me your updated address sometime in the last year, you should resend it. If not, no letterpressed Halloween card for you, and no wedding invite next year.

We went to look at this gorgeous restored barn for a reception site yesterday, and fell in love with it! Only problem is that they have no Saturdays open in September or October, so it looks like we'll be getting married on November 1st, 2008. All Saints Day. Which means our rehearsal dinner is going to be on Halloween. eeks!

Everyone eats downstairs, then moves up to the hayloft for drinks and dancing. I hope it's still kind of fall like.

I got the job! I'm the Recycling Program Coordinator for Recycling Connections Corporation, a small non-profit. We're moving to Appleton, Wisconsin in a month. It's all coming so fast!

I need to buy work clothes, because I'll be having meetings with city officials and going to conferences and whatnot. My dirty garden jeans just won't cut it. But I've been having such a hard time finding clothes that I want to buy! Why is it that I always find things when I don't want to spend money, but it's so hard when I'm actively looking?

Camps have been great! Last week I canoed, kayaked, and rafted with middle schoolers. Next week we've got a high school river camp. It's great to be outside in the water all week so that I can fully appreciate our last summer in Portland.

Okay, people are coming over and I have food to prepare.

eeks - I got an interview for the first job I've applied for in Wisconsin, and they want me to prepare a 10 minute PowerPoint presentation to give during the interview. I have to try and convince municipal leaders to join some recycling program. Yikes! Wish me luck!

mmm, I'm making some chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese frosting.

Today I led some campers on a hike up to where Dave and I got engaged. Now I'm very tired, but it was so nice to be out in the gorge all day.

I'm not sure what the point of this post is. Things are good in Oregon.

The school year is ending this week, which means no more running from program to program from school to school. Whew! We've got summer camp starting soon, which is busy and tiring in itself, but at least it's a regular schedule with a set pattern.

I'm getting a little bit sad about leaving Oregon in the fall, now that I realize I won't work another school year here. I just love the city and my job so much. I just wish it were about 20 hours closer to the Midwest - then it would be perfect :-) But, hopefully we will like Madison just as much, and make a good life there as well. I'm starting to apply for jobs, so wish me luck!

Yesterday we went strawberry picking and got tons of great strawberries to make jam. We also made this: Strawberry/Blueberry Shortcake for a party last night. If you are looking for a show stopper, make this! It wasn't even too hard to make, just some shortbread, berries, and whipped cream. We brought it into this party and people we didn't even know started taking pictures of it. Then after I cut into it, people lined up to get some, and it was gone in 10 minutes. It was there, and then suddenly I turned around, and all that was there was some old guy scraping up the last bit of cream and berries with his fork. Insane. Luckily I got some before it was all gone, and it was pretty delicious. I can't wait to make it again!

We decided we wanted to take a class on the letterpress so that we could print our own wedding invites. I mentioned it to a girl at the party last night, and amazingly, she's doing the same thing for her wedding at the end of the month. So we're going to go with her tomorrow to watch/help her print the menus. I'm so excited about it! Then Dave mentioned it to his dad on the phone today, and apparently his uncle is a printer and has a letterpress in his basement in West Lafayette, IN! What luck! So hopefully after we move back, we can spend some weekends at Dave's great uncle's house, learning all the ins and outs of the letterpress and making beautiful invites/place cards/menus/thank you notes for our wedding!

Everyday Dave has a new dream for a kind of business we can open up. As great as his job is, I think he's just ready to not be working for anyone. I mean, we're smart enough and excited enough to be able to do anything, right? Today it's a paper store/letterpress business with all of this excitement. But it may also be a movie theater, indoor soccer (actually futsal) courts, or whatever we think of tomorrow. I like the paper store idea. Who knows? Maybe in a few years we'll have a cute little business.

These are days for dreaming... I hope everyone is well! Sorry I don't write more often in this thing!

After he proposed, at Fairy Falls.

The ring! It's a polar bear diamond, which means it was mined in Canada. I guess there is an itty bitty tiny polar bear etched on the side of the ring. Fun! I can't wait to take it into the jewelry store so they can show that to me!

Hooray! We're thinking fall 2008, so keep your calendars open, haha :-D

I'm going to Argentina for a week in May! Hooray! Dave will be going down for 2 weeks for work, and then I'm going to join him for another week. I can't wait! It's just the start of winter there, so I hope to get some ultra cute leather boots!

I had a really nice, relaxing weekend, which is exactly what I needed. And I found a really cute dress to wear to my sister's wedding! It's yellow, which is a bit risky with my yellow skin-tone, but I think it's cute! yay!
